Bio:
Neil earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley and a Master of Arts in Economics at the University of Tokyo. Neil has 17 years of teaching experience and is an expert in many academic subjects including Calculus, Physics, Economics, SAT® /ACT, and SSAT/ISEE. Being the head math and test prep expert at Tokyo Academics, Neil has worked with hundreds of students and trained the majority of Tokyo Academics tutors in his fields of expertise. Before working on Tokyo Academics, Neil built an academic tutoring division at a learning center in Palo Alto, California where he also taught many students and trained tutors. Neil had a year of experience as a mechanical engineer at companies in Silicon Valley.
Entrepreneurship: Neil has run 5 hackathons in Japan and Vietnam, so he has extensive experience with MVP (most viable product) service and product development. Neil has created numerous educational service offerings throughout his career including Tokyo Coding Club (a tech education service for kids/young adults), International Young Researchers’ Conference (a global high-school level research conference with students participation from many countries over many years), Tokyo Techies (a tech product studio/consulting group), and Tokyo Founders (a volunteer group that teaches the basics of entrepreneurship in Japan including finance, legal, and immigration)
Through his graduate education journey, Neil has worked on a few research papers (published and unpublished) on Industrial Organization, Game Theory, and Econometrics. Neil has a solid understanding of statistical methods and has an extensive network of academic researchers to whom he has successfully introduced many students. Neil used to write an economic blog that once had 25,000 unique monthly readers.
Neil has extensive connections to diaspora communities in Tokyo and Bay Area where he was extensively involved in fundraising for many NPO’s to do their works. Together with a few friends, Neil built an online fundraising platform for NPO’s in 2009 and received $100,000 funding from the Ford Foundation to pursue their NPO’s endeavor.
