Bio:
Yoko graduated one year early from Johns Hopkins University in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. She was on the Dean’s List every semester and received General and Departmental Honors upon graduation. Yoko is now a medical student pursuing a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (東京医科歯科大学). Prior to college, Yoko attended Nagoya International School and graduated in 2018 as the valedictorian of her class. She scored 43/45 on the IB with 4 higher-level courses and earned the IB Bilingual Diploma. Yoko also scored 99th percentile scores on the SAT®, ACT, SAT® Math Level 2, and SAT® Chinese with Listening, and obtained a perfect score of 120/120 on the TOEFL iBT.
At Johns Hopkins, Yoko worked as a research assistant for the Institute of Cell Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She co-authored three publications and won awards at multiple international research conferences. She was also the recipient of the Provost’s Undergraduate Research Award in 2020 and the David S. Olton Research Award in 2021, both of which are highly competitive annual research awards at Johns Hopkins.
Yoko also worked as a personal tutor for the Office of Academic Support at Johns Hopkins, in which she tutored students who were taking calculus and organic chemistry. She also served as a teaching assistant for two introductory neuroscience courses, in which she held weekly office hours and review sessions for students and worked closely with professors to help run the courses smoothly.
In her free time, Yoko likes to play soccer and basketball, listen to music and play the piano, and spend time with her three cats.
