In high school, Elaine took an array of AP classes ranging from Chemistry to History, but she particularly enjoyed her English courses where she scored 5s on both the AP® Literature and AP® Language tests. She was also an avid policy debater who competed on the national circuit. Led by her passion for policy debate, Elaine attended Georgetown University, where she double majored in English Literature and Chinese and minored in Studio Art, and graduated with distinction. While in school, she was awarded the Certificate For Outstanding Academic Achievement in Chinese.
During her tenure at Georgetown, Elaine worked independently with students on their undergraduate and graduate school application packages including essay writing, scholarships, and planning/preparation. After graduating, she moved to Japan and continued her work with students, teaching English in local elementary and junior high schools in Gotsu, Shimane. While teaching English, she successfully mentored students through the Eiken exams, entrance exams, and essay writing.
Through her six years of experience as an advisor working with students on their undergraduate and graduate applications and two years as an educator, Elaine developed her teaching philosophy that centers around empowering students to develop their voice and realize their unique capabilities. From providing over five years of guidance to a high school student through the undergraduate admissions process and eventually helping them secure admissions to Harvard, Stanford, and Yale Law, to mentoring a student with academic challenges to navigate the complexities of top-tier admissions applications and essays, Elaine encourages students to gain confidence in themselves and their storytelling to prepare them for their academic careers and beyond.
Outside of the classroom, you can find Elaine studying Japanese, painting, and cooking or baking.
