Hayden grew up in Virginia, surrounded by the beginnings of American history. Inspired by all there was to learn, Hayden started working at a local museum in high school, where he discovered a love for teaching. Graduating with honors from the historic College of William and Mary in 2019, he received his B.A. in both Government and Global Studies. While studying, Hayden discovered a new interest in the distant country of Japan. Pursuing his desire to teach, as well as learn more about Japanese culture, Hayden moved to Japan in 2019 to teach on the JET program. He participated in the program for a full 5 years, where he had the privilege to teach English to Japanese elementary and middle school students. Starting in 2024, Hayden now attends the University of Tokyo, where he is pursuing his Masters, studying ways AI can be used to make education more engaging and effective.
Hayden has a track record of academic success: passing 8 AP®s, receiving perfect scores of 800 and 36 on the reading sections of the SAT® and ACT respectively, and scoring in the 99% percentile on the GRE verbal section. He understands what it takes to succeed, and his goal is to help others to do the same. Hayden believes that all learning is driven by motivation: a combination of efforts by both teacher and student. Thus, when teaching and tutoring, he focuses on increasing motivation by making learning interesting, engaging, and fun. At the same time, he also tailors his instruction to meet the students where they are at. He believes that each student best learns in different ways, and seeks to work with every tutee to reach their full academic and personal potential. For him, teaching isn’t top-down, it’s about teamwork: and he’s excited to be on your team.
When he’s not in school or at TA, Hayden enjoys traveling, playing narrative games, and eating at new restaurants. If you have any recommendations for good places to eat, he’s always excited to hear them!
