Who We Are
TA is the passion project of a constellation of teachers, researchers, and academics in Tokyo, Japan. Since 2012, we’ve evolved from a few university friends tutoring at a tiny restaurant in Tokyo into an organization of academic, test prep, and college admissions experts, helping international students to realize and reach their potential and capture the opportunities of the future.

From the Desk of Neil Nguyen
Growing up in a small town in Vietnam, I never imagined I would one day graduate from UC Berkeley with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or earn a Master’s in Economics from the University of Tokyo. I certainly never imagined that I would one day be leading a team of dedicated educators here at Tokyo Academics, but education changed everything for me. My journey wasn’t easy. I faced countless obstacles — from financial hardships to navigating new cultures and languages. But it was through these challenges that I discovered the transformative power of education. I found that with the right guidance, support, and determination, a child can achieve far beyond what they might initially think possible.
This belief in the potential of every student led me to dedicate over 17 years to teaching and tutoring, helping hundreds of students excel in subjects like Calculus, Physics, Economics, and standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, SSAT, and ISEE. Before founding Tokyo Academics, I built an academic tutoring division in Palo Alto, California, where I saw firsthand how the right approach can inspire students to unlock their full potential.
At Tokyo Academics, I’ve personally trained our tutors, sharing the methods and strategies that I have developed over years of working with students from diverse backgrounds. We’ve seen incredible results: our students routinely achieve remarkable improvements in their grades and test scores, gaining acceptance to some of the most competitive schools in the world.
