Alex has studied and worked in 5 countries working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. He studied and obtained a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Surrey in the UK. Upon graduating with a first, his research in urban wind mechanisms lead to a publication. He decided to pivot into environmental engineering, so after obtaining the MEXT scholarship he moved to Japan and obtained a second masters in Global Engineering for Development, Environment and Society at Tokyo Institute of Technology. There he used machine learning techniques to study wind patterns above Tokyo. He now pursues a PhD in urban air pollution mechanisms. In his research he is passionate in pursuing climate change relate topics, such as urban weather contribution to global warming.
As a tutor Alex aims for the “a-ha” fueled eureka moment, that catalyzes an excited curiosity and intrinsic motivation in the student. Achieving this comes though an appreciation of the humble origin, process and consequence of the natural world around us that over time, normal people like us have like a “puzzle-pieced” together. As subjects begin to “click together” one after another the student can gain an indominable confidence that anything is learnable, solvable and achievable.
With a track record of academic excellence—including A-level distinctions in Math, Physics, Greek and Fine Art—alongside experience in standardized test preparation, Alex is well-equipped to support students in achieving their academic goals.
Feel free to reach out and join Alex on an adventure, where every challenge is an opportunity to discover what makes things tick
