James Xin Chen is a graduate of Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where he earned a Master’s in Design Studies with a focus on Media & Technology. Before attending Harvard, James completed his architectural education at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), securing both a Bachelor of Architecture and an M.S. in Design Theory and Pedagogy, the latter awarded with distinction. Throughout his academic journey, James has been recognized for his dedication and excellence.
James’s professional expertise in innovative digital design techniques, such as A.I. Human Machine Interface and VR modeling, has not only contributed to significant design projects but also to the educational development of aspiring designers. By leading workshops and providing mentorship, James has effectively guided students through the complexities of creative development and portfolio preparation. In his role, James leverages his broad perspective from working as an architect in both the United States and China to enrich his teaching and mentorship. His dedication to the academic and personal growth of his students aims to empower them with the knowledge and confidence needed for success in the fields of art and design.
