Robbie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Throughout high school, he excelled in both college entrance exams and AP® tests, earning a 1530 and 35 on the SAT and ACT, respectively, and all 5s in AP Language, Literature, US History, Calculus AB/BC, Statistics, Biology, and Chemistry. This academic excellence continued throughout university, where he was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, earned the Dean’s List multiple semesters, and graduated with a 3.96 GPA.
Robbie has been teaching in a variety of settings since his time at UNC Chapel Hill, often as a math and English tutor for students of all age levels. Most recently, he served as an assistant language teacher (ALT) at middle and elementary schools in Itoigawa, Niigata, from November 2021 to March 2023.
Inspired by his time as an ALT, Robbie has been pursuing his Master’s in Linguistics (with a focus on TESOL) at Sophia University since April 2023. While a student at Sophia, he is also taking the opportunity to earn an official Junior/Senior High School Teaching License in English. After graduation, he hopes to work at an elementary or middle school in Japan.
In addition to holding JLPT N1 certification, Robbie is comfortable using Spanish (his father’s native tongue) and is trying his hand at Chinese. Outside of the classroom, he loves to play the piano, read (and edit) Wikipedia, and travel across the Japanese countryside.
